In The Tank With The Sharks

Share |

“Shark Tank,” the critically acclaimed and multi-Emmy® Award-winning reality show that has reinvigorated entrepreneurship in America, returns to The ABC Television Network this fall for its ninth season. The business-themed show that has become a culturally defining series and inspires a nation to dream bigger, recently amassed an amazing $100 million in deals in the Tank.

The Sharks – tough, self-made, multi-millionaire and billionaire tycoons – continue their search to invest in the best businesses and products that America has to offer. The Sharks will once again give people from all walks of life the chance to chase the American dream and potentially secure business deals that could make them millionaires.

The Sharks are billionaire Mark Cuban, owner and chairman of AXS TV and outspoken owner of the 2011 NBA champion Dallas Mavericks; real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran; “Queen of QVC” Lori Greiner; technology innovator Robert Herjavec; fashion and branding expert Daymond John; and venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary.

“Shark Tank” will feature a blockbuster lineup of guest Sharks during the 2017-2018 season. The guest Sharks are: serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist Richard Branson; Spanx owner Sara Blakely; Skinnygirl founder Bethenny Frankel; iconic Smartwater and Vitaminwater brand-builder Rohan Oza; and legendary baseball player and businessman Alex Rodriguez. They will appear individually alongside four other Sharks in various episodes.

This season viewers will see an updated “Shark Tank” set.  The Sharks’ iconic red leather chairs and the entrepreneurs’ rug will get a new, sleek and contemporary look. The show will continue to provide glimpses of the entrepreneurs’ excitement and anticipation of what they go through backstage in the intense moments before they face the Sharks. As in past seasons, “Shark Tank” episodes will have follow-up stories, allowing viewers the opportunity to see how some investments led to success.

The hit unscripted series will reach its milestone 200th episode in 2018. Also in season nine, the Sharks are on track to surpass the amount of money offered each season in their investment deals. Over the past eight seasons, the Sharks have offered more than $107 million to bankroll a creative array of innovative entrepreneurs.

The entrepreneurs who dare to enter the Tank must try to convince the Sharks to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they desperately need to turn their dreams into million-dollar realities. All of the good, bad, emotional and even absurd pitches help showcase the “I wish Ihad thought of that” business ideas and products.

But the Sharks have a goal, too – to get a return on their investment and own a piece of the next big business idea. When the Sharks hear an idea worth sinking their teeth into, they’re more than ready to declare war and fight each other for a piece of it.

Viewers will continue to ride an emotional roller coaster this season, complete with heated fights between the Sharks, ingenious business ideas and touching moments. Whichever way the wheeling and dealing may go, many people’s lives will be better off – because they dared to enter the unpredictable waters of the “Shark Tank.”

ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ Returns on a New Night for Season Nine with Two Episodes on Sunday, October 1
(Sundays from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET – new day and time period)

Guest Shark Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is one of Major League Baseball’s greatest players. He is CEO of AROD Corp, a multi-faceted business conglomeration boasting coast to coast with an auto dealership group, international and domestic fitness clubs, and a fully integrated real estate empire, with over 200 employees and more than 12,000 units in their portfolio across 13 states.

Guest Shark Sara Blakely

Sara Blakely is the founder and sole owner of Spanx, the brand that is constantly inventing more comfortable undergarment options for women that just happen to also make your butt and gut look amazing, and now, thankfully, makes killer leggings, too!

The brand was born from a simple goal – find something to wear under white pants to make them more flattering. After some creativity with scissors and control top pantyhose, Spanx is now a successful business with offerings that extend far beyond its original shapewear.

In 2006, Sara also founded her eponymous foundation, which has set aside millions of dollars to empower and elevate women and girls. She also created the Leg Up initiative, which empowers female entrepreneurs to build successful businesses and create economic opportunity in their communities.

Sara lives in Atlanta with her husband and four kids. She is an advocate of women being whatever they want to be, but most importantly being their own boss!

Shark & New Jersey Native, Barbara Corcoran

Barbara Corcoran’s credits include straight D’s in high school and college and 20 jobs by the time she turned 23. It was her next job that would make her one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country: She borrowed $1,000 and quit her job as a waitress to start a tiny real estate company in New York City. Over the next 25 years Barbara would parlay that $1,000 loan into a $5 billion real estate business, building the largest and best-known brand in the business.

Corcoran is the author of the bestseller “Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business!”

Corcoran is a motivational and inspirational speaker. She is a frequent small business and real estate contributor on every major network. Corcoran has been an investor/Shark for the past nine seasons on ABC’s three-time Emmy award winning show “Shark Tank.”
